If your search is for Cisco training but you’ve no working knowledge of routers, what you need is a CCNA. This program has been designed to instruct individuals with a working knowledge of routers. Large companies that have a number of branches rely on routers to connect computer networks in different rooms to allow their networks to keep in touch. The Internet is also built up of hundreds of thousands of routers.

Usual roles with this qualification could be with an internet service provider or possibly a large or international company which is located on multiple sites but still wants internal communication. These jobs are well paid and in demand.

Having the skills and correct mind-set before getting going on the Cisco CCNA is very important. So talk to someone who will know what you need.

We can guess that you’re quite practically minded – a ‘hands-on’ personality type. If you’re like us, the trial of reading reference books and manuals is something you’ll force on yourself if you absolutely have to, but you’d hate it. Check out video-based multimedia instruction if you’d really rather not use books. Research into the way we learn shows that we remember much more when we involve as many senses as possible, and we put into practice what we’ve been studying.

Interactive audio-visual materials involving demonstration and virtual lab’s will forever turn you away from traditional book study. And they’re a lot more fun to do. It makes sense to see examples of the courseware provided before you sign the purchase order. What you want are video tutorials, instructor demo’s and interactive modules with audio-visual elements.

You’ll find that many companies will only provide purely on-line training; while you can get away with this much of the time, consider what happens when you don’t have access to the internet or you only get very a very slow connection sometimes. It’s much safer to rely on DVD or CD discs which don’t suffer from these broadband issues.

A proficient and professional consultant (vs a salesman) will want to thoroughly discuss your abilities and experience. This is vital for working out your starting level of study. An important point to note is that, if you have some relevant previous certification, then you may be able to begin at a different level to a trainee with no history to speak of. For those students commencing IT study anew, you might like to ease in gradually, beginning with some basic user skills first. This can easily be incorporated into most training packages.

Authorised exam simulation and preparation packages are essential – and really must be obtained from your training company. Avoid depending on unofficial exam papers and questions. The type of questions asked can be quite different – and often this creates real issues when it comes to taking the real exam. ‘Mock’ or practice exams are enormously valuable as a resource to you – so that when you come to take your actual exams, you don’t get uptight.

Commencing with the understanding that it makes sense to home-in on the job we want to do first, before we’re even able to consider which career development program meets that requirement, how do we decide on the right path? Since without any solid background in IT, in what way could we know what a particular job actually consists of? Arriving at a well-informed answer only comes through a thorough study across many different areas:

* Our personalities play a starring role – what kind of areas spark your interest, and what tasks put a frown on your face.

* Why it seems right stepping into IT – it could be you’re looking to achieve a life-long goal like being your own boss for example.

* What salary and timescale needs that are important to you?

* Because there are so many ways to train in computing – there’s a need to get some key facts on what makes them different.

* You will need to understand what differentiates each area of training.

When all is said and done, your only chance of covering these is by means of a meeting with an advisor who through years of experience will be able to guide you.

Proper support should never be taken lightly – look for a package offering 24×7 direct access to instructors, as anything else will annoy you and definitely put a damper on the speed you move through things. Always avoid training that only supports students through a message system outside of normal office hours. Companies will try to talk you round from this line of reasoning. But, no matter how they put it – you want to be supported when you need the help – not when it suits them.

Keep your eyes open for training programs that use several support centres from around the world. Each one should be integrated to offer a simple interface and also access round-the-clock, when it suits you, with no hassle. Look for a training school that cares. Because only round-the-clock 24×7 support truly delivers for technical programs.

All of us are short of time, and most often if we want to improve our career prospects, studying alongside a job is the only option open to us. Training tracks certified by Microsoft could offer a solution. Maybe you’d choose to find a training advisor, who can give you some ideas on which area of the industry would be right for you, and the kind of responsibilities that are a good match for someone with your abilities and personal preferences. When you’ve chosen the career track for you, an appropriate course needs to be selected that’s goes with your needs. This should be personalised for you.

Ignore the typical salesman who pushes one particular program without an in-depth conversation to gain understanding of your current abilities and experience level. Make sure they can draw from a wide-enough array of training so they can solve your training issues. Of course, if you’ve had any relevant qualifications that are related, then you will often be able to start at a different point than someone new to the industry. It’s wise to consider a user-skills course first. This can help whip your basic knowledge into shape and make your learning curve a a little easier.

Students who consider this area of study can be very practical by nature, and don’t always take well to classrooms, and endless reading of dry academic textbooks. If you’re thinking this sounds like you, try the newer style of interactive study, with on-screen demonstrations and labs. Many studies have proved that we remember much more when all our senses are involved, and we get practically involved in what we’re studying.

Modern training can now be done at home via interactive CD and DVD ROM’s. Through instructor-led video classes you’ll find things easier to remember by way of their teaching and demonstrations. Then it’s time to test your knowledge by interacting with the software and practicing yourself. Always insist on a demonstration of the study materials from your training provider. You’ll want to see expert-led demonstrations, slideshows and fully interactive skills-lab’s.

Avoiding training that is delivered purely online is generally a good idea. Physical CD or DVD ROM materials are preferable where offered, as you need to be able to use them whenever it’s convenient for you – it’s not wise to be held hostage to a good broadband connection all the time.

Commencing with the idea that we have to locate the employment that excites us first and foremost, before we can consider which training course fulfils our needs, how do we decide on the way that suits us? Because with no commercial background in IT, how could any of us know what a particular job actually consists of? To attack this, we need to discuss a variety of unique issues:

* What hobbies you’re involved with in your spare-time – often these highlight what possibilities will give you the most reward.

* What is the time-frame for retraining?

* Have you thought about salary vs job satisfaction?

* Getting to grips with what the normal career types and markets are – and what differentiates them.

* You should also think long and hard about the amount of time and effort you’re going to give to the accreditation program.

The best way to avoid the barrage of jargon, and uncover the best path to success, have an informal meeting with an experienced professional; a person that understands the commercial reality and of course each qualification.

Can job security honestly exist anymore? Here in the UK, with industry changing its mind on a day-to-day basis, we’d question whether it does. But a sector experiencing fast growth, where there just aren’t enough staff to go round (because of a big shortage of properly qualified staff), enables the possibility of lasting job security.

The computer industry skills shortage throughout Great Britain is standing at approximately twenty six percent, according to a recent e-Skills survey. Quite simply, we can only fill three out of every four jobs in the computer industry. This troubling certainty shows an urgent requirement for more properly qualified computer professionals across Great Britain. For sure, it really is a critical time to train for the computer industry.

Watch out that all accreditations you’re studying for are recognised by industry and are the most recent versions. Training companies own certificates are generally useless. All the major IT organisations such as Microsoft, Adobe, Cisco or CompTIA each have nationally recognised skills programs. Major-league companies like these will give some sparkle to your CV.

by Jason Kendall

PC and network support staff are constantly sought after in Great Britain, as companies become progressively more dependent on their technical advice and skills. With the increasingly multifaceted levels of technological advances, many more trained staff are being looked for to specialise in the smooth operation of functions we’ve become dependent on.

Please understand this most important point: You have to get round-the-clock 24×7 instructor and mentor support. You will have so many problems later if you don’t heed this. Locate training schools where you can access help at any time of day or night (no matter if it’s in the middle of the night on a weekend!) Ensure you get 24×7 direct access to mentors and instructors, and not simply some messaging service that means you’re consistently being held in a queue for a call-back at a convenient time for them.

The very best training providers use multiple support centres across multiple time-zones. By utilising an interactive interface to join them all seamlessly, irrespective of the time you login, help is at hand, without any contact issues or hassle. Never make do with less than this. 24×7 support is the only viable option when it comes to computer-based courses. Maybe late-evening study is not your thing; usually though, we’re at work during the provided support period.

Beginning with the understanding that it’s good to find the market that sounds most inviting first and foremost, before we can even weigh up which development program meets that requirement, how do we know the way that suits us? What chances do most of us have of understanding the day-to-day realities of any IT job when it’s an alien environment to us? Maybe we don’t know someone who works in that sector anyway. Usually, the way to come at this issue properly lies in a deep talk over a variety of topics:

* Personality plays a significant part – what kind of areas spark your interest, and what tasks get you down.

* Why you’re looking at stepping into Information Technology – is it to overcome a life-long goal like working from home for instance.

* Does salary have a higher place on your priority-list than some other areas.

* Learning what the normal work types and markets are – and what differentiates them.

* Having a proper look at what commitment and time you can give.

To bypass the industry jargon, and uncover the best route for you, have an informal meeting with an industry-experienced advisor; a person who will cover the commercial realities and truth whilst covering each qualification.

If your advisor doesn’t ask many questions – chances are they’re just trying to sell you something. If they push a particular product before learning about your history and experience, then you know you’re being sold to. With a strong background, or even a touch of real-world experience (some certifications gained previously perhaps?) then it’s more than likely your starting point will vary from someone who is just starting out. Opening with a foundation program first is often the best way to commence your computer program, but really depends on your level of familiarity with computers.

Students will sometimes miss checking on something that can make a profound difference to their results – how their company actually breaks down and delivers the physical training materials, and into how many separate packages. Students often think it makes sense (with a typical time scale of 1-3 years to pass all the required exams,) for many training providers to send out a single section at a time, as you achieve each exam pass. Although: What if you find the order prescribed by the provider doesn’t suit you. It may be difficult to get through all the modules inside of their particular timetable?

Ideally, you want ALL the study materials up-front – enabling you to have them all to return to any point – irrespective of any schedule. Variations can then be made to the order that you complete each objective if another more intuitive route presents itself.

A key training package will undoubtedly have Microsoft (or key company) exam preparation systems. Don’t go for training programs relying on unofficial exam papers and questions. The type of questions asked can be quite different – and this leads to huge confusion in the actual examination. Be sure to request some practice exams so you can verify your understanding at all times. Practice exams prepare you properly – then you won’t be quite so nervous at the actual exam.

by Jason Kendall

If you’re thinking about studying for an MCSE, you’re probably in 1 of 2 situations. You’re either just starting to come into the computer world, and you’ve discovered that the IT industry has many opportunities for qualified people. On the other hand you may be a knowledgeable person looking to gain accreditation with the MCSE qualification.

As you discover more about training colleges, make it a policy to steer clear of those that compromise their offerings by failing to provide the current Microsoft version. Such institutions will hold back the trainee due to the fact that they’ll have learned an out-of-date syllabus which isn’t in line with the current exam syllabus, so they’ll probably fail. Training companies ought to be completely focused on establishing the best direction for prospective students. Directing learning is as much about guiding people on establishing where to go, as it is helping to help them get there.

There is no way of over emphasising this: It’s essential to obtain proper 24×7 round-the-clock instructor and mentor support. You’ll definitely experience problems if you let this one slide. Try and find training with help available at any time you choose (no matter if it’s in the middle of the night on a weekend!) You want access directly to professional tutors, and not access to a call-in service which takes messages – so you’re consistently being held in a queue for a call-back when it’s convenient for them.

The best trainers use multiple support centres around the globe in several time-zones. They use an online interactive interface to seamlessly link them all, any time of the day or night, there is always help at hand, with no hassle or contact issues. You can’t afford to accept less than you need and deserve. Online 24×7 support is the only kind to make the grade when it comes to computer-based learning. Maybe burning the midnight-oil is not your thing; but for the majority of us however, we’re at work at the time when most support is available.

Most people don’t even think to ask about something that can make a profound difference to their results – how their training provider actually breaks down and delivers the training materials, and into what particular chunks. Usually, you’ll join a programme taking 1-3 years and receive a module at a time. This may seem sensible until you think about these factors: What would happen if you didn’t finish each and every module at the proposed pace? Often the prescribed exam order doesn’t come as naturally as some other order of studying might.

For maximum flexibility and safety, it’s not unusual for students to request that all their modules (now paid for) are posted to them in one go, with nothing held back. You can then decide at what speed and in which order you want to work.

A big contender for the biggest issue to be got round for IT students can be attending multi-day workshops. Many training schools extol the virtues of the so-called ‘benefits’ of these classes, but most students end up finding them a thorn in your side due to many reasons:

* Frequent back and forth visits – sometimes 100’s of miles or more.

* For those of us that work, then Monday to Friday events are difficult to make. More than likely you will be contending with two or three days together to make it worse.

* And don’t ignore the lost holiday days. We typically get four weeks vacation allowance. If half is given up to classes, then it doesn’t leave much for us and our families.

* Workshop days typically get bloated with students.

* Many students want to study at a somewhat more suitable pace – rather than be dictated to by the rest of the class. Often this can bring about classic classroom tension.

* A lot of attendees talk of the high costs involved with getting transport to and from the training centre while forking out for food and accommodation can get very high.

* Most students want their training to remain private so as to avoid any management questions at work.

* Asking questions in the presence of other class-mates often makes any one of us a little awkward. Would you admit that you’ve occasionally avoided posing a question just because you were worried it might make you look silly?

* Where students have to on occasion work elsewhere in the country for several days at a time, imagine the trouble involved in making the requisite workshops, when time is at a premium.

Wouldn’t it be better to watch on-screen and study with instructors one-to-one from ready-made lessons, studying them at a time that’s convenient for you and you alone. You can train wherever you want. If you’ve got a laptop, why not take in some sunshine outside as you learn. If you have any difficulties then logon to the 24×7 support facility. Repeat any of the classes if you need to – repetition aids memory. And you can say goodbye to note-taking – it’s all done for you already. Could it be more straightforward: No wasted time or money, travelling is avoided; and you get a more stress-free study setting.

If you’d like to get involved in a web design team, an Adobe Dreamweaver course is vital to achieve relevant qualifications that are globally recognised. The complete Adobe Web Creative Suite should additionally be studied in-depth. This will educate you in Flash and Action Script, (and more), and could lead on to the ACE (Adobe Certified Expert) or ACP (Adobe Certified Professional) qualification.

Making websites is only the beginning of the necessary skill-set for professional web-designers today. Why not look for a program that includes important features like HTML, PHP, MySQL, Search Engine Optimisation and E-Commerce in order to know how to maintain content, create traffic and program dynamic sites that are database driven.

Can job security honestly exist anymore? Here in the UK, with businesses changing their mind at alarming speeds, it seems increasingly unlikely. In times of increasing skills shortfalls mixed with high demand areas however, we always find a new kind of security in the marketplace; driven by the constant growth conditions, organisations are struggling to hire the influx of staff needed.

The Information Technology (IT) skills shortfall across the UK clocks in at roughly twenty six percent, as noted by the most recent e-Skills analysis. Showing that for every four jobs that are available across Information Technology (IT), there are barely three qualified workers to do them. This disturbing fact highlights the urgent need for more appropriately qualified IT professionals across Great Britain. Actually, retraining in Information Technology as you progress through the next year or two is almost definitely the greatest career move you’ll ever make.

Accredited simulation materials and exam preparation packages are vital – and absolutely ought to be offered by your course provider. Due to the fact that a lot of examination boards in IT are from the USA, it’s essential to understand how exam questions will be phrased and formatted. It isn’t good enough just understanding random questions – they need to be in the proper exam format. You should make sure you check your depth of understanding by doing quizzes and mock ups of exams prior to taking the proper exam.

Traditional teaching in classrooms, with books and manuals, is an up-hill struggle for the majority of us. If all this is ringing some familiar bells, check out study materials which feature interactive and multimedia modules. Long-term memory is enhanced when all our senses are brought into the mix – this has been an accepted fact in expert circles for decades now.

Courses are now available on CD and DVD discs, so everything is learned directly from your own PC. Using video-streaming, you can watch instructors demonstrating how it’s all done, and then practice yourself – with interactive lab sessions. Always insist on a study material demo’ from any training college. The package should contain demo’s from instructors, slideshows and fully interactive skills-lab’s.

It is generally unwise to opt for on-line only training. With highly variable reliability and quality from most broadband providers, you should always obtain CD or DVD ROM based materials.

Many training companies have a handy Job Placement Assistance program, to help you get your first job. Having said that, occasionally this feature is bigged up too much, for it is actually not that hard for any motivated and trained individual to land a job in this industry – because companies everywhere are seeking qualified personnel.

Advice and support about getting interviews and your CV is sometimes offered (if it isn’t, consult one of our sites). It’s essential that you bring your CV right up to date today – not when you’re ready to start work! It’s not uncommon to find that junior support jobs are offered to trainees who are still learning and haven’t even passed a single exam yet. At the very least this will get your CV into the ‘possible’ pile and not the ‘no’ pile. Most often, a specialist independent regional recruitment consultancy – who make their money when they’ve found you a job – will be more pro-active than a centralised training company’s service. It also stands to reason that they’ll know the local industry and employment needs.

Essentially, if you put the same amount of effort into securing a job as into studying, you won’t find it too challenging. A number of people inexplicably conscientiously work through their training and studies and do nothing more once qualified and appear to be under the impression that jobs will come to them.

An all too common mistake that potential students often succumb to is to look for the actual course to take, instead of focusing on where they want to get to. Training academies are brimming over with direction-less students who took a course because it seemed fun – instead of what would yield their end-goal of a job they enjoyed. Avoid becoming one of the unfortunate masses who select a program which looks like it could be fun – and get to the final hurdle of an accreditation for an unrewarding career path.

It’s essential to keep your focus on what you want to achieve, and build your study action-plan from that – don’t do it back-to-front. Keep on track and begin studying for a career that’ll reward you for many long and fruitful years. Seek out help from a professional advisor who understands the sector you wish to join, and who can give you ‘A day in the life of’ understanding of of what you’ll be doing day-to-day. It just makes sense to ensure you’re on the right track well before you embark on your training program. There’s really no reason in kicking off your training only to discover you’re on the wrong course.

Four separate areas of study make up a full CompTIA A+; you’re considered an A+ achiever once you’ve passed your exams for two of the four areas. Because of this, it’s usual for colleges to only have two of the courses on their syllabus. In reality you’re advised to have the teaching in all areas as many jobs will demand an awareness of the whole A+ program. It’s not essential to take all four exams, but we would recommend you learn about all four.

As well as being taught about building and fixing computers, students on an A+ training course will learn how to operate in antistatic conditions, how to fault find, to diagnose and to remotely access problems. Should you want to work towards looking after computer networks, you should add Network+ to your training package. This qualification will enable you to apply for more interesting jobs. Also look at the networking qualifications from Microsoft, i.e. MCP, MCSA MCSE.

Students often end up having issues because of one aspect of their training very rarely considered: The breakdown of the course materials before being packaged off through the post. Students often think it makes sense (with a typical time scale of 1-3 years to pass all the required exams,) for many training providers to send out the courseware in stages, until you’ve passed all the exams. But: What if there are reasons why you can’t finish every section? What if you don’t find their order of learning is ideal for you? Without any fault on your part, you may not meet the required timescales and therefore not end up with all the modules.

In all honesty, the best solution is to have a copy of their prescribed order of study, but make sure you have all of your learning modules right from the beginning. Everything is then in your possession should you not complete it within their ideal time-table.

One fatal mistake that we encounter all too often is to concentrate on the course itself, rather than starting with where they want to get to. Training academies are full of unaware students that chose an ‘interesting’ course – instead of what would yield the career they desired. Never let yourself become one of those unfortunate students who choose a training program that on the surface appears interesting – only to end up with a qualification for something they’ll never enjoy.

Be honest with yourself about earning potential and how ambitious you are. Sometimes, this affects which particular accreditations will be expected and what’ll be expected of you in your new role. Chat with an experienced professional that has a background in the industry you’re considering, and could provide a detailed description of what to expect in that role. Researching these areas before commencement of any learning course will prevent a lot of wasted time and effort.

A major candidate for the biggest issue to be got round in IT training is a requirement to attend multiple workshop days. Most training schools harp on about the plus points of attending, it’s almost certain though that you’ll find them a major problem because of:

* A lot of driving back and forth from the workshops – sometimes hundreds of miles.

* If you work for a living, then weekday workshops are hard to attend. Typically you are looking at two or three days together to make it worse.

* With just 20 days holiday per year, spending half on training days often means losing out on family and vacation time.

* Workshop days normally get too big.

* Tension can run high in mixed classes because the right pace for one student is not the same as another.

* Tot up the cost of all the petrol, fares, food, parking and accommodation and you could be in for a major shock. Attendees mention extra costs ranging from hundreds to over a thousand pounds. Work it out – then you’ll know.

* Most students want their training to remain private to avoid any kind of questions in their job.

* Posing questions in the presence of other class-mates will often make us feel self-conscious. Surely, at some point, you’ve avoided asking a question as you didn’t want to look foolish?

* Working away from home – a minority of attendees need to live or work somewhere else for part of the programme. Events end up being very difficult then, unfortunately you’ve already paid for them in your initial payment.

The best possible solution is to watch a pre-made lesson – having instructor-led teaching on hand any time of the day that suits. Whenever you get stuck, make use of the 24×7 support (that you should have insisted on for any technical study.) Don’t forget, if you’ve got a notebook PC, study isn’t restricted to the home or office. You have the ability to come back to any of the study modules as often as you need to prep for an exam. And of course, you won’t need to take notes as you’ll have direct access to the instruction whenever you want to go back to it. Though it’s impossible to remove every single problem, it unquestionably removes stress and makes things simpler. You also have reduced travel, hassle and costs.

The Microsoft MCSA course (Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator) is a perfect match for anyone hoping to work as a network supporter. Whether you’re already knowledgeable but want to improve your CV with an acknowledged certification, or you are a beginner in the computer world, you should soon be able to find a course to fulfil your needs. If you want to get into the IT workplace and this is your first experience, it’s likely you’ll have to improve your skill-set before studying for the Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP) exams needed to achieve MCSA certification. Search for a training organisation that’s willing to design a course to fit your requirements – you should be able to chat with an industry expert to determine your best course of action.

The world of information technology is one of the most thrilling and changing industries to be involved in today. To be dealing with leading-edge technology puts you at the fore-front of developments shaping life over the next few decades. Computing technology and interaction via the web is going to radically affect our lifestyles over future years; to a vast degree.

If earning a good living is high on your scale of wants, then you will welcome the news that the income on average of the majority of IT staff is noticeably better than salaries in most other jobs or industries. It’s evident that we have a considerable nationwide requirement for qualified IT professionals. Also, as growth in the industry shows little sign of contracting, it is likely there’s going to be for years to come.

Watch out that all exams you’re working towards will be recognised by employers and are current. ‘In-house’ certificates are not normally useful in gaining employment. From the viewpoint of an employer, only the top companies like Microsoft, CompTIA, Adobe or Cisco (as an example) will open the right doors. Anything less won’t make the grade.

One useful service that many training companies provide is job placement assistance. This is to help you find your first job in the industry. Having said that, occasionally people are too impressed with this facility, as it is genuinely quite straightforward for any motivated and trained individual to find a job in this industry – because companies everywhere are seeking skilled employees.

Help with your CV and interview techniques may be available (alternatively, check out one of our sites for help). Make sure you polish up your CV today – don’t leave it till you pass the exams! You might not even have taken your exams when you’ll secure your initial junior support job; although this can’t and won’t happen unless your CV is with employers. Actually, an independent and specialised local recruitment consultancy (who will, of course, be keen to place you to receive their commission) is going to give you a better service than a centralised training company’s service. Also of course they should be familiar with the local industry and employment needs.

In a nutshell, as long as you put the same commitment into landing a job as into training, you won’t find it too challenging. Some trainees inexplicably invest a great deal of time on their training course and then call a halt once certified and seem to expect employers to find them.

An important area that is sometimes not even considered by those considering a training program is that of ‘training segmentation’. This is essentially the breakdown of the materials for delivery to you, which completely controls where you end up. Drop-shipping your training elements one piece at a time, as you complete each module is the normal way of receiving your courseware. This sounds logical, but you should consider these factors: Sometimes the steps or stages pushed by the company’s salespeople doesn’t suit all of us. And what if you don’t finish all the elements inside of their particular timetable?

In all honesty, the very best answer is to obtain their recommendation on the best possible order of study, but make sure you have all of your learning modules right from the beginning. You’re then in possession of everything should you not complete it at their required pace.

One interesting way that training providers make a big mark-up is by adding exam fees upfront to the cost of a course and presenting it as a guarantee for your exams. This sounds impressive, but let’s just examine it more closely:

You’re paying for it one way or another. It’s definitely not free – it’s simply been shoe-horned into the price as a whole. If it’s important to you to get a first time pass, then you should avoid exam guarantees and pay when entering exams, prioritise it appropriately and apply yourself as required.

Why pay your training course provider in advance for examinations? Go for the best offer at the appropriate time, rather than coughing up months or even a year or two in advance – and do it in a local testing centre – instead of miles away at the college’s beck and call. Buying a course that includes payments for examination fees (which also includes interest if you’ve taken out a loan) is bad financial management. Resist being talked into filling the training company’s account with your money just to give them more interest! Many will hope you don’t even take them all – but they won’t refund the cash. In addition to this, exam guarantees often have very little value. The majority of companies will not pay for re-takes until you’re able to demonstrate an excellent mock pass rate.

Splashing out often many hundreds of pounds extra on ‘Exam Guarantees’ is naive – when study, commitment and preparing with good quality mock and practice exams is actually the key to your success.

You should feel pleased that you’ve made it this far! Just ten percent of people enjoy their work and find it stimulating, but most of us simply moan about it and nothing happens. Because you’ve done research it’s likely that you’re finding out about training, so even now you’re ahead of the game. Now you just need to research and follow-through.

Prior to considering specific training programs, look for an advisor who will give you advice on which area will be right for you. An advisor who will take time to ask questions about your likes and dislikes, and find out the best career for you to work towards:

* Would you like to work with others? If the answer’s yes, would you enjoy being part of a team or are you more comfortable dealing with strangers? Or would you rather work alone with a task?

* What do you need from the industry your job is in? (Things do change – look at the building trade, or banks for example.)

* Is this the last time you imagine you’ll re-train, and therefore, will this new career service that need?

* Do you think being qualified will give you the opportunity to discover new employment possibilities, and stay employable until you wish to retire?

We request you to really explore the IT industry – there are more positions than workers to do them, because it’s one of the few choices of career where the market sector is on the grow. In contrast to the beliefs of some, it isn’t just geeks looking at screens every day (if you like the sound of that though, they do exist.) Most positions are filled by ordinary men and women who enjoy better than average salaries.

It’s so important to understand this key point: It’s essential to obtain proper 24×7 round-the-clock support from professional instructors. We can tell you that you’ll strongly regret it if you don’t adhere to this. Avoid, like the plague, any organisations who use messaging services ‘out-of-hours’ – with your call-back scheduled for the next ‘working’ day. This is no use if you’re stuck and want support there and then.

The most successful trainers use multiple support centres active in different time-zones. An online system provides an interactive interface to link them all seamlessly, any time of the day or night, help is just seconds away, without any problems or delays. Don’t ever make the mistake of taking second best with the quality of your support. Most would-be IT professionals who fall by the wayside, are in that situation because of a lack of support.

Lately, do you find yourself questioning how safe your job is? For most people, this only rears its head when we get some bad news. But really, the lesson often learned too late is that true job security doesn’t really exist anymore, for nearly everyone now. Now, we only experience security through a swiftly rising marketplace, driven forward by a shortfall of trained staff. It’s this alone that creates the correct setting for a secure market – a much more desirable situation.

Recently, a UK e-Skills investigation demonstrated that twenty six percent of IT jobs are unfilled due to an appallingly low number of trained staff. Therefore, for each 4 job positions that exist around Information Technology (IT), employers can only source certified professionals for 3 of the 4. Acquiring proper commercial computing certification is therefore a ‘Fast Track’ to succeed in a long-term as well as satisfying occupation. As the Information Technology market is developing at such a quick pace, there really isn’t any other area of industry worth considering as a retraining vehicle.

You should look for an accredited exam preparation programme included in your course. Some students can get thrown by practicing questions for their exams that aren’t recognised by official sources. Quite often, the way questions are phrased is startlingly different and you need to be ready for this. Obviously, it’s very important to ensure that you’re completely ready for your actual certification exam before taking it. Practicing ‘mock’ exams logs the information in your brain and helps to avoid wasted exam attempts.

The age-old way of teaching, utilising reference manuals and books, is often a huge slog for most of us. If this describes you, find training programs that are on-screen and interactive. If we’re able to study while utilising as many senses as possible, then the results are usually dramatically better.

Courses are now available via DVD-ROM discs, where everything is taught on your PC. Through video streaming, you will be able to see the instructor presenting exactly how to perform the required skill, with some practice time to follow – via the interactive virtual lab’s. It would be silly not to view some of the typical study materials provided before you make your decision. You should expect videoed instructor demonstrations and interactive modules with audio-visual elements.

Some companies only have access to online training only; sometimes you can get away with this – but, imagine the problems if internet access is lost or you get slow speeds and down-time etc. It’s preferable to have actual CD or DVD ROMs that removes the issue entirely.

Students often end up having issues because of one aspect of their training very rarely considered: The way the training is divided into chunks and couriered to your address. Many think it logical (when study may take one to three years to gain full certified status,) for a training company to release a single section at a time, as you achieve each exam pass. Although: With thought, many trainees understand that their training company’s ’standard’ path of training isn’t the easiest way for them. Sometimes, it’s more expedient to use an alternative order of study. Perhaps you don’t make it inside of the expected timescales?

To be straight, the very best answer is to have their ideal ‘order’ of training laid out, but get everything up-front. It’s then all yours should you not complete it inside of their required time-scales.

If you want Cisco training, the chances are you’re looking for a CCNA. The Cisco training is the way to go for those who wish to get to grips with routers and switches. Routers are what connect networks of computers to other sets of computer networks over dedicated lines or the internet.

The sort of jobs available with this knowledge mean you’ll most probably work for national or international companies that have various different locations but still need contact. The other possibility is joining an internet service provider. Jobs requiring these skills are plentiful and well remunerated.

The CCNA qualification is all you need at this stage – you’re not ready for your CCNP straight away. Once you’ve got a few years experience behind you, you’ll know if this next level is for you. If you decide to become more qualified, you’ll have significantly improved your chances of success – as your experience will help you greatly.

Commencing with the understanding that it’s good to home-in on the market that sounds most inviting first, before we can even ponder which career development program ticks the right boxes, how do we know the right direction? Flicking through a list of odd-sounding and meaningless job titles is just a waste of time. Most of us have no concept what our own family members do for a living – so we’re in the dark as to the subtleties of any specific IT role. The key to answering this question properly flows from an in-depth talk over several different topics:

* What hobbies you have and enjoy – these can show the things will satisfy you.

* Why you’re looking at starting in IT – maybe you’d like to triumph over a particular goal such as working for yourself maybe.

* Where do you stand on salary vs job satisfaction?

* Considering the huge variation that the IT industry encompasses, it’s obvious you’ll need to be able to understand how they differ.

* It makes sense to understand the differences across each individual training area.

To cut through the barrage of jargon, and discover what’ll really work for you, have an informal meeting with an industry-experienced advisor; a person that can impart the commercial reality while explaining the certifications.

If your advisor doesn’t dig around with lots of question – the likelihood is they’re just trying to sell you something. If they’re pushing towards a particular product before learning about your history and experience, then you know it’s true. Of course, if in the past you’ve acquired any previous certification, then you can sometimes expect to commence studying further along than a trainee with no history to speak of. If you’re a new trainee beginning IT exams and training for the first time, you might like to ease in gradually, beginning with some basic user skills first. This is often offered with most accreditation programs.

One of the most important things to insist on has to be full 24×7 support through trained professional instructors and mentors. It’s an all too common story to find providers that will only offer a basic 9am till 6pm support period (maybe later on certain days) with very little availability over the weekend. You’ll be waiting ages for an answer with email based support, and phone support is usually just a call-centre who will just take down the issue and email it over to their technical team – who will then call back sometime over the next 24hrs, when it suits them. This is no good if you’re lost and confused and have a one hour time-slot in which to study.

World-class organisations provide an online access 24×7 service involving many support centres throughout multiple time-zones. You will have an easy to use interface which switches seamlessly to the best choice of centres no matter what time of day it is: Support when you need it. Look for a company that cares. Only true live 24×7 support provides the necessary backup.

Being a part of the cutting-edge of new technology really is electrifying. Your actions are instrumental in shaping the next few decades. We’re only just starting to get an inclination of how technology will define our world. The internet will significantly revolutionise the way we regard and interrelate with the world as a whole over the coming decades.

A average IT worker across the UK will also get much more than equivalent professionals in another industry. Standard IT salaries are hard to beat nationally. It’s evident that we have a substantial nationwide need for certified IT specialists. In addition, with the marketplace continuing to expand, it looks like this pattern will continue for the significant future.

Every program under consideration should always lead to a fully recognised major accreditation at the end – not a useless ‘in-house’ plaque for your wall. The top IT companies such as Microsoft, CompTIA, Cisco or Adobe all have internationally recognised skills programmes. Major-league companies like these will make your CV stand-out.

What are the sort of things you’d expect the top of the range training organisations accredited by Microsoft to give a student in the United Kingdom at present? Obviously, the finest Microsoft authorised training routes, supplying a selection of courses to take you to a variety of careers in the IT workplace. Additionally you might like to get advice on the sort of careers to be had when you’ve finished studying, and the type of individual that work may be appropriate for. Most students like to discuss what they might be good at. Confirm that your training course is tailored to your skills and abilities. A reputable training company will always guarantee that your training program is appropriate for the status you wish to achieve.

Getting your first commercial position sometimes feels easier to handle if you’re supported with a Job Placement Assistance program. Having said that, occasionally this feature is bigged up too much, because it is actually not that hard for a well trained and motivated person to secure a job in the IT environment – because companies everywhere are seeking skilled employees.

However, what is relevant is to have help and assistance with preparing a CV and getting interviews though; also we would encourage any student to get their CV updated the day they start training – don’t delay till you’ve finished your exams. Getting your CV considered is better than being rejected. Often junior positions are given to people (who’ve only just left first base.) You can usually expect better performance from a specialist locally based employment agency than you’ll get from a training company’s national service, because they will understand the local industry and employment needs.

To bottom line it, as long as you focus the same level of energy into finding your first IT position as into studying, you’re not going to hit many challenges. A number of people inexplicably put hundreds of hours into their training course and do nothing more once certified and would appear to think that businesses will just discover them.

You should only consider learning programs which progress to commercially acknowledged exams. There’s an endless list of trainers offering their own ‘in-house’ certificates which will prove unusable in the real world. From the perspective of an employer, only the big-boys such as Microsoft, Adobe, Cisco or CompTIA (to give some examples) provide enough commercial weight. Nothing else hits the mark.

Don’t forget: a training program or a certification is not what you’re looking for; the career that you want to end up in is. A lot of colleges seem to put too much weight in the qualification itself. You may train for one year and then end up doing the job for 20 years. Don’t make the error of finding what seems like a program of interest to you and then put 10-20 years into a job you don’t like!

Spend some time thinking about earning potential and how ambitious you are. This will influence what particular certifications will be required and what industry will expect from you in return. Seek guidance and advice from an experienced advisor, even if you have to pay – it’s much safer and cheaper to discover early on if your choices are appropriate, instead of discovering after 2 years that the job you’ve chosen is not for you and have to return to the start of another program.

Don’t accept anything less than the current Microsoft (or any other key organisation’s) authorised exam preparation packages. Sometimes people can get confused by practicing questions for their exams that don’t come from official boards. Sometimes, the terminology in the real exams is unfamiliar and it’s vital that you know this. Why don’t you test your knowledge through tests and practice in simulated exam environments before you take the real thing.

Many training providers only give support to you inside of office hours (typically 9am-6pm) and sometimes a little earlier or later; It’s rare to find someone who offers late evening or full weekend cover. Many only provide email support (too slow), and phone support is often to a call-centre that will make some notes and then email an advisor – who’ll call back sometime over the next 1-3 days, at a suitable time to them. This is not a lot of use if you’re stuck and can’t continue and only have certain times available in which to do your studies.

If you look properly, you’ll find professional companies which give students online support 24×7 – including evenings, nights and weekends. Never ever take second best where support is concerned. Many trainees who fall by the wayside, are in that situation because of a lack of support.
