PCs Versus Laptops
Many households nowadays have either PCs or laptops, used for work, recreation or both. If you are thinking of getting either one for your own use, there are several things that you should take into consideration before you make your decision. These include the price, peripherals and accessories, upgrades and repairs and your lifestyle.
You would probably spend the same amount for peripherals and accessories, regardless if you are using a desktop or a laptop. But then it depends on the brand of the unit, since the prices differ from one brand to another. But if you live in a small space, a laptop is the better choice, since it is a self-contained unit that has less wires and hardware. With a desktop, there is the keyboard, CPU and monitor to deal with.
PCs are easier to upgrade and repair than laptops. You can easily add more RAM, put in a better video card, and replace the processor and many more. On the other hand, there are some laptop brands where an upgrade is impossible and you have to buy new unit in order to have a faster, better and stronger computer.
Upgrades and repairs. Generally, laptops are more difficult and expensive to upgrade and repair than PCs. In some cases, you need to replace your unit because an upgrade is impossible. With a desktop, you have more latitude; so that you can add additional RAM, a better video card, replace the processor and many more.
A desktop would also be a better buy if you need more storage for files and programs, or a powerful computer with a good video card for gaming. On the other hand, if you need to be able to use a computer anytime and anywhere, a laptop is your best bet. In general, your lifestyle and how you intend to use your computer is another important consideration.
Sometimes, the choice between chic and mobile laptops and robust and powerful PCs is difficult since both have their own pros and cons. Some people who can afford it buy both – a moderately priced laptop for anywhere and anytime use that they synchronize with a relatively inexpensive desktop that also serves as a print and file server. But if you are constrained by your finances or lifestyle to just one of the two, the considerations enumerated above should help you come to a decision faster.
Even though people use mobile devices to do some computing, most of it is still done on PCs. Most people have laptops and smartmobile devices, and both of them are useful for their own kind of computing.
